Buru Energy Ltd is an ASX listed Australian oil and gas exploration and production company solely focused on exploring and developing the petroleum resources of the Canning Basin, in the southwest Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Canning Superbasin

Buru Energy’s permits are in the Canning Basin, an area in the SW Kimberley region some 2,300 kms north of Perth. The area is low relief and is dominated by rangelands with large cattle grazing properties covering most of the area.

Buru Energy has an extensive and highly prospective exploration portfolio including conventional oil and gas prospects that are well defined on both 2D and 3D seismic.  The portfolio covers a range of prospect sizes and play types from proven Ungani lookalikes to high potential play types for oil and gas.  Buru equities in these prospects range from 50% to 100% and it is operator for all of these areas.

Mr Eric Streitberg
Executive Chairman

Mr Streitberg has more than 40 years of experience in petroleum geology and geophysics, oil and gas exploration and oil and gas company management. He was a founding shareholder and held the position of Managing Director of ARC Energy Limited from 1997 until August 2008, during which time ARC Energy Limited was transformed from a junior oil and gas exploration company into a mid-size Australian oil and gas producer.  Mr Streitberg was also the founding shareholder and Managing Director of Discovery Petroleum which was a key participant in the renaissance of the Perth Basin as a significant gas producer until the takeover of the company in 1996.  Prior to that he held various senior international exploration roles with Occidental Petroleum and BP.  He was a founding shareholder and Non-executive Director of Adelphi Energy Limited from 2005 until its takeover in 2010.  He is a founding shareholder of Buru Energy and has been a Director since its listing in October 2008.

He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

Mr Streitberg is a Director and past Chair of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association and has also chaired the APPEA Exploration and Environment Committees.  He is the immediate past Chair of the Marine Parks and Reserves Authority of Western Australia.

Mr Streitberg is a Certified Petroleum Geologist and Geophysicist and holds a Bachelor of Science (App. Geoph.) from the University of Queensland.

Mr Shane McDermott
CFO and Company Secretary

Mr McDermott, CA, AGIA, BComm (Accounting and Finance) has an accounting and auditing background having worked at a large international accounting practice for five years at its Perth office before joining Buru Energy in 2009. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and an Associate of the Governance Institute of Australia. He acted as Buru Energy’s Joint Company Secretary from 1 December 2011 to 1 November 2012 and was the Assistant Company Secretary for two years prior to that appointment.

Mr David Long
Exploration Manager

Mr Long joined Buru in July 2013 and has 26 years of technical and managerial experience in exploration and production. He was previously located overseas with Shell International, Premier Oil and PDO located in the UK, Eastern Europe, Pakistan, Netherlands, Indonesia, and Oman. On emigrating to Australia in 2004, Mr Long spent six years with Woodside working on international and Australian exploration opportunities, followed by two years with Apache on Asia-wide new business. In addition to seismic interpretation and regional geological evaluations, Mr Long has also had roles in seismic acquisition, quantitative interpretation, field development and heavy oil steam injection tertiary recovery. He is Geophysicist with a masters degree from Imperial College, London.

Mr Mark Devereux
Exploration Advisor

Mark Devereux joined Buru in November 2013 and has more than 25 years of technical and managerial experience primarily in offshore exploration and entirely with operating companies. He has previously worked for international operating companies including Arco, Mobil and OMV and also for former Australian independent Ampol Exploration Limited mostly on Australian exploration and new venture opportunities. Prior to joining Buru, Mr Devereux held the position of Exploration Manager for OMV’s Australian exploration portfolio of 11 operated offshore permits for eight years. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Association of Petroleum Geologists and Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia.

Dr Kris Waddington
Operations Manager

Dr Kris Waddington joined Buru Energy in 2012 and is responsible for operations, health, safety, environment and community. Most recently, Kris oversaw the successful delivery of Ungani production restart and upgrade programs at the oilfield. In addition to an excellent knowledge of the West Kimberley operating environment, Kris has expertise in project management, risk management and cost control ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and on budget. In regards to HSEC, Kris has helped deliver the environmental approvals for the Company’s 2015 frac program and worked closely with Traditional Owners including the Yungngora (Noonkanbah) and Yawuru groups. Prior to joining Buru, Kris has held roles as Senior Research Fellow at UWA specialising in environmental impact assessment and in environmental and engineering consultancy.
