Possible suitable future markets for EdenPlast, indicated by the results to date, are the automotive and packaging markets

Eden Innovations Ltd’s (ASX:EDE) patent application “Method for Making Nanostructured Materials Using Intercalation of Carbon Nanoparticles”, filed in August 2017, has been allowed by the US Patent Office.

The method is particularly suited to the fabrication of high-strength plastic nanostructured materials and was developed by Eden together with the University of Queensland.

Important step in commercialisation

The US patent will issue once the relevant fee has been paid and Eden has also filed a patent convention treaty (PCT) application which allows for filing of corresponding patent applications around the world.

Receiving the patent is a crucial step in Eden’s proposed commercialisation of EdenPlast, providing protection to the patented methodology in the USA until August 2037.

EdenPlast will also be protected in any other jurisdictions where a similar patent may be granted under the PCT.

Enhanced performance characteristics

Undergoing development for several years, EdenPlast has produced a range of plastics that have enhanced performance characteristics including stiffness, elasticity and strength.

A master batch of highly concentrated nanoparticle-enhanced plastic, necessary for marketing a commercial product, has also been developed.
